LOCATION: Community of Bor spreads through the central part of Eastern Serbia. Extraordinary geomorphologic shapes of relief, hidrogeological phenomenon, and waelth of flora and fauna characterize this area. Surface karst shapes are presented in crevice , depression and valleys of different dimensions, which ends in abysses with a purpose of infiltration of atmospheric waters in well functional canal of speleological objects. Dry karst valleys with characteristic hidrogeology of karst and periodical waterflow, which cuts carbonate crests and massifs, are making deep canyon and gorges. Lazar's canyon is the deepest, the longest, and the most saved canyon.
THE PROJECT: The program will be carried out at the entrance of Lazar's canyon, where Lazar's and Vernjikica caves are situated. These caves were once regarded as touristic attractions. The aim of the program is to clean and prepare this caves, as well as the area for touristic use, and protect the caves from further destruction.
Program of eco-school intendent to participants, before all to foreign ones, about natural and cultural values of Juzni Kucaj.
Cooperation with local residents, from village Zlot, will be realized through the program of cleaning the riverbanks of Lazar's river.
STUDY PART AND LEASURE ACTIVITIES: Lectures on topics like: protecting the karst phenomenons, speleoogy, speleo-archeology, speleo-palentology, ecology, protection of the bats, etc. will take part. Excursion to Museum of mining and metallurgy, tracking tours to Malinik and Dubasnica, many sightseeing of local caves. At Dubasnica you will see traditional summerhouses.
ACCOMODATION: Participants will be accommodated under the tent, at the entrance of the canyon, just by the motel "Zlotske pecine". Will be able to use bathroom in the motel. Food will be provided by the stuff of the motel.
Motel " Zlotske pecine" is about 4 km far from village Zlot, and 24 km far from Bor. In the village there is a store, where you can by necessary things.
WHAT TO BRING: A sleeping bag is necessary. Also bring warm clothes, a light raincoat, boots for tracking, haversack, battery lamp. Please bring something to represent your country - traditional meal recepees, traditional music, and pictures of interesting places in your country.
TRAVEL DIRECTIONS: You will travel to Belgrade individually. From Belgrade you can take a bus to Bor at 10,30 and you will arrive in Bor at 14,30. There are buses at 15,15; 17,30 which arrive in Bor at 19,15 and 21,30. From Bor you can take a bus to STANIJEVICI at 15,45 and 23,45. Bus ticket from Belgrade to Bor costs 356 dinars or about 12 DM. Bus ticket from Bor to Stanijevici costs about 1,2 DM. At the bus station buy a ticket to Zlotske pecine. Also tell the driver that you're getting of at Zlotske pecine (Zlot's caves).
You can also take a train from Belgrade to Bor (leaving Belgrade at 10,30) but you may miss a bus at 15,45 because train is arriving to Bor at 15,45. Anyway train ticket cost 6 DM or 180 dinars.
ARRIVAL TIME: Should be on July 15th, at 16,30 at the motel. We'll wait for you at the bus stop "Zlotske pecine" .
Someone from Young researchers of Bor, will wait for you at the bus station in Bor, helping you to find the camp easily.
NOTES: Please let us know if you have any health problems, like allergic reactions (if you're allergic to bees, some kinds of food, etc.). Please let us know if you are a vegetarian.
In case you have some health problems, please bring prevent medical treatments.
DICTIONARY: Remember, in Serbian language every letter is pronounced for itself. Also there are some letters which are very specific: č is pronounced as ch, ć as soft ch, š as sh, etc.
